First words

“The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion.
Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”
    ~ Numbers 14:18 (NIV)

No one’s surprised
She reminds people of her grandmother
A brilliant respectable educated Christian
It’s in her features
In her manners
Might it not go deeper
Who knows how many generations
Like her grandmother there’ve been
She’s said nothing more than mommy daddy baby
At eleven months
I speculate about what she’ll say
When the time comes
For expressing a complete meaning in language
Then she does
What a surprise
To be surprised
Just three words
Her grandmother to her last years wouldn’t say
In the world as I envision it
Come first
