Inside

“If you know everything about yourself, you know everything.”
~ Kurt Gödel, as quoted by Hao Wang in A Logical Journey

Can the culture teach you how to love?
What does culture know?
How can you or the culture ever teach each other
If not from the inside?

Can the church teach you how to love?
How much can it love
And be loved
If not from the inside?

Can science teach you how to love?
Since when can science find sufficient evidence
That love exists
If not from inside?

Can Hollywood teach you how to love?
Which stories can it share
Unless we’re accepting enough to ask that it share
From the inside?

Can a few written words teach you how to love?
How much can words say
Unless both source and destination are deep
On the inside?
