Oneness

“Here’s to all or nothing at all”
~ Sekou Sundiata, “Shout Out” from the album The Blue Oneness of Dreams (1997)

Everyone divides the world
Into different types of people
Some see black and white
Thin and fat
Child and parent
Sinner and saint
Straight and LGBTXQ
In and out
Protestant Catholic Jewish Hindu Sikh ...
Poor and rich
Doctor and patient
Good bad and ugly
Then there’s me
Though I look beyond those differences
I’m yet no different
I too categorize
My own way
Into the sleeping and the waking
Those who are zonked away drugged up texting yakking or draped in front of the screen
And those who sense brighter colors sprightlier sounds deeper feelings spectacular highs abysmal lows
They’re the few who are present
As I’m present with them
They’re me
I’m them
What else exists?
